After a steamy, rough introduction, Frankenstein quickly hits the spot with a generous 4K master. While utilizing a thick-grained film stock, Arrow's compression holds steady, keeping the imagery consistent. Sharpness runs high, nailing the textural beauty of this source material. Even in steamier scenes, fidelity pops free. Beautiful wide shots and perfect close-ups fill the full runtime.

Color grading brings some concern, clearly digital in its aggressive orange/teal glaze. Flesh tones flush with an amber glow, and numerous backgrounds skew toward an overly perky blue. It's not natural looking at all, if saturated and appealing to an extent.

Dolby Vision does fine work in invigorating lightning bolts, bringing intense brightness against the grim dungeon interiors. There's a generous boldness to all candlelight and sun. Shadows reach the same pleasing firmness.

Audio

Offered in stereo and 5.1, both DTS-HD, the surround mix brings a few complications. It's mixed low, especially dialog, which is nearly lost among grand action scenes. Frankenstein is woefully imbalanced.

Rear speakers find material to handle. While ambiance is low (street scenes don't stretch from the stereos), major sequences like an opening storm spread water and creaking wood throughout the soundstage. Lab electricity crackles, but again, across the front soundstage. This isn't anything great, rather purely average.
