From Chris: 1936 song-and-dance musical released by The Film Detective.  Surprisingly decent transfer, supposedly the first 100% Technicolor  musical. It looks better than I expected, frankly. Made by Pioneer  Pictures, an early proponent of Technicolor. Unfortunately, the film  didn't go great at the box office or in reviews, though one of its  dancing sequences did get nominated for an Oscar.

Honestly,  it's not a half-bad musical if you enjoy Broadway-style entertainment.  Apparently it failed because the male and female leads weren't well  known and it had no real stars, though Rita Hayworth appears as a  background dancer before becoming famous.

The  Film Detective has become a much better label in the last couple years.  Their discs are looking better and better with stronger technical  proficiency.
