From Chris: David Mamet writes the screenplay based on his original play for  this disastrous movie starring William H. Macy and a litany of cameo  roles from an early 2000s all-star line-up: Julia Stiles, Denise  Richards, Mena Suvari, Joe Montegna, Bokeem Woodbine, George Wendt, and  even Jeffrey Combs. Probably the worst mistake in Mamet's distinguished  career.

The movie barely runs 75 minutes  and still feels 30 minutes too long. One of the worst written final acts  I've come across. All the major studios rightly refused producing this  "provocative" movie so it operates on a shoestring indie budget.

It's  a good thing for these actors Edmond did nothing at the box office and  is basically forgotten on home video - tons of racist and homophobic  dialogue which could not be made in 2021. Mamet is needlessly edgy here  for the sake of being edgy without any greater ambition.

I  often flip between the surround and stereo tracks checking if there are  any differences and discovered a curious audio drop-out on the stereo  track which isn't found on the surround mix.

Barely serviceable transfer with thick halos and soft definition. Probably struck during the DVD era.
