From Chris: 1994 movie with an all-star cast: Christian Bale, Kate Beckinsale, Helen Mirren, Gabriel Byrne, Brian Cox and others. Based on the Danish legend which inspired Hamlet, so the plot is very familiar for anyone who's seen Shakespeare's play. Bale and Beckinsale were basically unknown when this movie came out. Bale has future Hollywood star written all over his raw but capable performance, Beckinsale is completely forgettable and         unremarkable in her role as love interest. There's no hint she'll become a major Hollywood star within several years. The movie itself is a watchable curiosity but nothing particularly         special.
