From Chris: I remember when Brotherhood of the Wolf as a French movie first started getting run here in America. The buzz made things seem like it was going to be the greatest movie ever. Alas, it's mildly overrated despite a stylish mix of Hong Kong fights and         French costume period drama. The movie runs two hours and 30 minutes and feels longer. Decent b-movie that wants to be a sweeping historical epic. It does have a certain storytelling energy like the best anime that Hollywood never attempts in live action. The most recognizable face in the cast is Monica Belluci.

Shout Factory uses the older Studio Canal transfer, which is middling at best and has some issues. The movie badly needs a new color grading. They also butcher the English subtitles with mistakes and small errors. Fan backlash has already ensued and Shout put a replacement program in place for new and fixed subtitles.

From me: This was one of the last movies I ever did a blind buy on. I heard the hype, rushed out, got the DVD, and was utterly drowned by boredom. Never again. Glad Chris wanted to take it, because I wasn't about to.
