Video

The only time I've seen another disc with this much clarity was Billy  Lynn. Avengers is nuts. There's not a single instance of grit or noise  anywhere. It's as true to a window view aesthetic as cinema can reach.

Sure, this is powered by a 2K source, but the clarity is so far beyond  some 4K presentations, that little hiccup hardly matters. Detail is  gorgeous, including the texture on suits and facial definition. Shots of  cities and the Battle of New York have no real precedent.

While all of that easily overpowers the Blu-ray, the deep color pass  legitimately enhances the movie. Saturation jumps, adding a zest to  Cap's red, white, and blue well beyond the previous... Blu. Reds of Iron  Man and Thor's cape? Magnifique. Loki's green and gold follows closely.

Avengers looks more like a comic book now than it ever did before.  While black levels cause some pause initially, messily floating above  the image, they soon fall onto the screen without fault. Come the night  brawl between Iron Man and Thor, the density is equivalent to video  magic. This comes in contrast to marvelous highlights, from the  tesseract glow to all of the beams and sparks generated by the fighting.  HDR work, in tandem with the color, makes Avengers look completely  different, new, and ultimately, better.

Audio

Hello Atmos. Stupidly good bass can readily take a few pictures off the  wall. As Shield base goes down to set the action in motion, the  resulting thunder is a sign of the dynamics to come. This one is loud,  enough to turn down a peg or two in order to be safe. Wonder why some  complained about discs like Black Panther? Compare Avengers side-by-side  and it's clear.

Superlative positional and overhead use nears a point of exaggeration.  That's fine. It adds to the bold, overpowering vibe Avengers is going  for. In action, it's like magic, popping from one channel to the next to  keep action flowing. Iron Man sweeps about, chasing after aliens that  whip around just in front. It's great, top end home theater material and  worth rebuying for A/V alone.
