Surprise! Above are a couple of pieces of art I created for Canfurence 2020, which I've been invited out to as Guest of Honor, featuring some super cute animals in steam punk attire, to fit the cons theme! The first being a button advertising the cons date and new location next year, which was given out at this years closing ceremonies to all attendees, and the second being Canfurence's new website banner. Below I'll guide you through some of the WIP process for these two pieces!

We'll start with the button!

Below are two WIPs I had sent to them. I decided on A as I felt it was fitting as an introduction to the con theme and con itself for next year. The cat pointing to the watch as if to say "Time is ticking! The date is approaching!" sort of thing (: After that was decided, I proceeded to inking and colouring it.

I had this finalized and ready for final feedback from the con! They really liked it, but felt that the browns were a little dark and blended together a bit too much. We decided to make the lighter brown more red, to allow the colours to pop a bit more and contrast better. I think this was a great decision. It looks really nice in the physical print of the button. Final design being above, with the added information added by a staff member of the con.

Onto the banner!

I unfortunately can't share option B as I intend on using it later on for something else, but here's the sketch WIP of the chosen design for the banner! I liked this one specifically cause it feels like she's arriving into Ottawa for the convention via train (: She's excited, and ready to look forward to a fun weekend awaiting for her! :D I received approval from the convention, and continued on with the lineart and colouring.

So here's the completed piece! I originally went with a red dress for this deer gal, but I couldn't decide if I liked her as a brunette or blonde! We all felt the contrast seemed better with the brown, so we locked that in, but others suggested trying blue or purple for the dress. So I went back to the drawing board and played around with the hue slider!

I immediately LOVED how the blue dress looked, and pushed for that! Thankfully others agreed, and we declared the piece finished!

 And thats that!

So in regards to next years con, I'll be there hosting a few panels throughout the weekend, selling my work, taking a few commissions, and all in all having an amazingly awesome good time! Throughout the year (after the art has been released on their social media profiles first, of course) I'll continue uploading art relating to the con and it's theme (Steam punk) in hopes of getting everyone super excited and eager for it! (and hopefully encourage some more people to attend who haven't already! :D

Like this post, I also I plan on posting all the WIPs relating to the promotional work for Canfurence here as well, as the artwork is officially released! I'll split it up into separate posts for each piece of art. I figured I'd mention it now to get my patron's pumped as well (:

Registration is open for next year too, so feel free to get a jump at that early bird discount price before it goes up in a couple of months!
