The initial sketch! 

Linework!

Flat colours!

Shading and added in a BG!

Put a texture over the background to make it nice and soft/romantic/cozy/etc. Added in highlights too! 

Finished product! Added in my signature, a tiny pink heart and another texture overlay that went over top of the lines, shading and colour layers to unify the overall image.

For romantic pieces like this, I really like to make things look nice and soft. So to achieve that effect, I not only make the shading soft, but I like to duplicate the lineart layer and blur as well as lower the opacity of it a bit. I leave the unedited lines stacked on top and the blurred lines layered underneath. I did the same for Nicole's whiskers too!
