2021 year in review (Patreon)

Wow! 2021 huh! Did that really happen? It feels like I was just making my end of year stuff for 2020 lmao.. was this year real.. did anything happen… why covid why 😭 

Well, similarly to 2020- while everything else was shit, Sparks actually did really well! It became an early access series on Tapas which has been great for me, and we’ve nearly hit 30k subscribers now which is super exciting- a few of the comics I really look up to/aspire to on Tapas have around 30k subscribers so I feel like ‘catching up’ to them was a pretty big dream for me, and now we’re nearly there! Wild! I hope it keeps growing in 2022, I’m nearly able to cover all my expenses just from Sparks now which feels surreal 😱 starting to think a future where I just work full time on it isn’t that much of a pipe dream! I can’t thank you all enough- I’m so glad I started this patreon, it’s really lovely to have this space where I feel like I can share all of my work/be a bit more personal since I‘m a bit of a recluse on social media (I have a lot of feelings about social media LOL) 

It also feels amazing to be drawing scenes in the comic I‘ve been thinking about for so long but wasn’t sure I’d ever reach- right now I’d say we’re about halfway through Part 2, and I don‘t feel unsure about my ability to continue the comic at all anymore, the fact that I’ve gotten this far has made me feel really confident in the fact that as long as I just keep making it I will eventually complete it!! It‘s an awesome feeling hahaha, similar to going on a long hike and knowing as long as you just keep walking eventually you’ll get there 💪 

I had hoped to print Book 1 of Sparks this year, and I had actually gotten a quote from a printer and was getting ready to run a Kickstarter in February 2022- but with the news of Kickstarter going into crypto, supply chain issues/paper costs etc, I don’t think I‘ll be doing that, which is a shame. I’ve maybe got something in the works that I don’t want to talk about just yet because I don’t want to jinx it, but hopefully I’ll still be able to get physical copies of Book 1 available for those who’d want it in 2022, even if it means I just end up printing a smaller run and fronting the cost myself.

Here’s a little look at Sparks in 2021-

It‘s wild to me to see we were only at the kiss scene in January- it feels like so much has happened since then!! I’m really excited to continue in 2022 and see where we get up to- Part 3 has a lot of things I‘m really looking forward to 👀 So glad I decided to take the plunge and start making this gay Satyr comic of my dreams 😭💖 and thank you again to all of you for your support!! I hope 2021 wasn’t too rough on you all- and here’s hoping 2022 is better 🤞
