TL;DR: Most of the time just pronounce syllabe by syllabe individually and you'll be correct. Now, if you want the long explanation... If I remember correctly, there are 3 methods of romanizing Japanese, one of them being the mainstream Japanese-to-English, but all of them are similar on the sense that one kana (Japanese characters when not written in ideograms) equals to one latin syllabe. You can google "hiragana/katakana chart". As a general rule, if you pronoune it syllabe by syllabe, you'll be at least half the time right. For example, if you spell A-Su-Ka you get real close to the correct pronounciation. Su is usually a quiet syllabe, but even so there are japanese people that DO pronounce the "Su" out loud. Another example is the correct pronounciation of katana. Normally you say kaTAHna when the japanese pronounciation is Ka-Ta-Na. There are special rules, some "modifiers" do syllabes if you must, that indicates either the consinant or vowel is extended. You actually see it in the word "sensei", that is pronounced more like as "sensee" or "senseh". The vowel enlongments are "aa", "ii", "uu", "ei", "ou", tho nowadays English is changing it to H. Kousaka (Kou-Sa-Ka), if translated today, would be written "Kohsaka" That raises the question: Is it O-U-Ma-E, or Ou-Ma-E? In this case we know it's Ou-Ma-E (Ohmae?) from the pronounciation, but you CAN have a word being spelled as O-U-Ma-E, that's why we're using the H now. PS: In latin-based languages, like my own (brazilian portuguese) it's way easier to understand japanese pronounciation, but for saxon languages it's way too different for it to be intuitive. PS2: Sometimes words are pronounced differently from the general rule I stated, you can have two words written the same way in kanas (characters) but with different pronounciations, and you can only know by context or by seeing the kanji (ideogram) that represents the whole word.

What a wonderful episode. With a fair bit of confidence, I can say Asuka is my favorite character in the story. That playing at the end was mesmerizing.

If you want a music anime to replace 'Sounds Euphonium', I strongly suggest 'Nodame Cantabile'. It is an anime about 2 music college students in Japan. One is a crazy/outstanding pianist woman that loves music but does not like the 'inflexible' way the classic music is. The second is a such talented guy who want to be a conductor in an European orchestra as the Maestro he met when he was little. But since he has a lot of phobia (plane and ship), he can't leave Japan so he try to create his own orchestra in Japan. The point about band, I would say it is similar to 'Sound Euphonium', but it is more adult view. New graduates musicians trying to join the pro music life path.

btw, not sure if anyone has mentioned it (sure people have but just FYI), season 3 is scheduled for April 2024. As well as 2 main story movies already released as well as 1 spin off movie (same setting just follows a different kid from the band (one we've already seen in the anime))

Haven't seen the anime, but I've seen the Nodame Cantabile live action series and movies. They were pretty cool. Over the top comedy and drama and a whole lot of music in it.

A bit of symbolism about that whole Reina discvoering about Taki's past life : first of, no she didn't know, Kumiko however did know and retained herself from telling Reina. Symbolism comes in when they're in the train, both of them are looking upwards, but Reina seems deep in thought while looking at the rings. Those rings are supposed to convey wedding rings, aka Taki and his late wife. Now Reina knows, and she wonders, what Taki and that woman's relationship is (i'm extrapolating but that's the idea I'd say). I think I remember talking about that with other fanatics of this show in a discord server. Little detail about Asuka and Kumiko's conversation in Asuka's Room. Asuka refuses to use her mother's name when she's referring to her, and refuses to call her "mom" unless she's talking directly to her. She calls her mom "ano hito" - "あの人", literally calling her "that person", or you could also say just "her". There might also be a translation error at the very beginning of that conversation when Kumiko notices that Asuka brought her Eupho back home. The translation says "Don't tell him" but she once again refers "ano hito" ("ano hito ni wa naisho dakedo ne" あの人には内緒だけどね"). The fan dub translated it to "don't tell her about it" iirc. Ps : this "press shift + enter" will be the death of me I had to edit this comment twice lmao

Regarding pronunciations, in the example you gave demonstrating how you would say Asuka's name, you subconsciously put emphasis on the "SU" syllable, because native English has that hidden rule (ex: en-SUE and not EN-sue, a-SSUME and not A-ssume). Japanese has less natural emphasis on syllables, but instead have rising and falling relative tones (ex: hashi can mean both bridge ha↓shi↑ and chopsticks ha↑shi↓). As for Asuka's (A↑su↓ka↓) name, imagine a musical triplet for each syllable, taking note not to emphasize the "SU". As you gradually increase the tempo, you'll kind of naturally cut the U-sound short to ensure the S-sound has time to actually be pronounced.
