The voice for Stark is the same as Gabimaru from Hell's Paradise, so that's where the familiarity comes from. Also the studio is called Madhouse

stark sounds familiar because its the same VA who played gabimaru in hells paradise! madhouse is the studio animating frieren, they have a well established legacy but had been in a slump for quite some time until this year. happy to see them returning to form with frieren.

I'm late to this comment party, but I wanted to watch the episode on my own first. I really enjoy the method of storytelling used. How we get snippets of the past to contextualize the present. For example, Frieren appears dissuaded by the thought of Stark's help, then we learn of his cowardice and it all makes sense.
