I think Taki-sensei knew the execs well enough to know that they would choose the same piece, which was probably his choice, too. He's probably hoping for unity? Also, I think Mayu was trying to get Kanade to call her by her first name, but Kanade insisted on calling Mayu by her surname, implying a distance

Total agreement on how great the OP is, especially the visuals. The drone shot, wow - I was impressed with the one on the first season's OP back in 2015, but this one, amazing.

Also, the "cutesy" vocals in the ED are because the voice actresses for the main quartet are singing it in character. That's fairly common in anime EDs (some even do it the OP too, though that's usually reserved for idol anime)
