Welp just one more episode left

Danyul

not ready for this to be done next week

Anthony Cano

Lots of subtleties in this episode. Were led to believe that serie is on a whole different level than freiren. She also suppresses her mana and is presumably much older however, her suppressed mana is the size of freiren's unsuppressed mana. And her star human pupil could tell freiren was suppressing it but not serie. Fern can see both indicating that her perceptive skills are the strongest of any human aside from maybe flamme. At 16/17 that means she has crazy potential as a master mage

Anthony Cano

It's interesting seeing that from an elf perspective or a bigger picture, freiren isn't that skilled for her age with the exception of mana control and size. Makes sense with frieren said herself that she's lost 12 times to other mages the majority being humans

Chris Hee

just to let you know, the manga chapter for this part ended on Fern's "What? No" response to Serie, so anime watchers have been spared the cliffhanger hahaha

Chris Hee

Also just to let you know, the 3rd Season of Sound Euphonium is airing in April, so maybe we might wanna watch the next two bridging movies? In order: 1. Sound Euphonium Chikai no Finale 2. Sound Euphonium Ensemble Contest-hen

Bunshi

Would recommend Mushoku Tensei next if looking for another good fantasy style one to replace the frieren void:)

Jet Man

I was thinking that too. Have the movies in the frieren slot until the new season of sound euphonium comes up.

drumrolltonyreacts

Well... I cant guarantee that i will have that kind of free time to record a movie length on Fridays, my real life schedule is always changing.

Chris Hee

Of course of course, absolutely whenever it's possible and whenever is best for you :)

Sesamerice

Its nice how it wasn't Frieren's mana suppression that defeated the Demon King but the spell that made flowers which led Himmel wanting to recruit her and ultimately defeating the Demon King. Its a peaceful and kind mindset which led to a peaceful era.

Avalon

The clear replacement after next week (ep 28 is the final episode) is Violet Evergarden. It’s not even a question.

Avalon

Suggesting Mushoku to non-anime fans is like suggesting Bakemonogatari. Some shit is so far down the Weeb train it’s not worth pursuing. You really think he cares to watch the fingering scene or have to constantly hear about Rudeus’ panty shrine every 5 eps?

drumrolltonyreacts

😅😅😅😅 Yea no thx. However, I'm watching anime 5 days a week for this and rewatching some on my personal time. To say I'm not a fan is a bit strange at this point

Chelle

This anime is legit in my top 10 if not higher, I loved basically everything about it. It’s so engaging and immersive, practically every episode felt so densely packed yet they each went by in a blink. I’m gonna miss it 😢 hope season 2 comes soon

Thevenomous

You're not missing anything by skipping Mushoku Tensei. It doesn't make you a "non-anime fan" to prefer to avoid the gross stuff some anime just can't stop doing.

Lixien

Yeah, not the Mushoku Tensei lmao. (And I say this as someone that could enjoy it trying to ignore the weird shit). It's just a shame because the OST is amazing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Woqzo7gLnOA

LegionaresCZ

Lot of anime attempt to portray the same themes as Frieren, but this show is just special, man. Anything replacing this show in the docket will have an impossible bar to clear.

Ryo

Violet Evergarden would be a great choice once this one ends. It's not quite in the same realm of fantasy, but the messages in it are truly special. Mushoku Tensei would be within the same realm of fantasy/isekai. It has a fantastic story and incredibly well written characters, but it is riddled with what some would call "pervy anime weirdness". I personally don't mind those parts at all but I recognize it is definitely a deal breaker for some people.

Sam

Seeing a lot of Violet Evergarden suggestions to replace this… and yeah, I agree. Similar to Frieren in that the animation is gorgeous, the music is beautiful (and also done by the same composer), and tugs on the heartstrings.

andoryuguen

Vinland saga personally for me. About the same seasonal length of 24 ish episodes for seasons 1 and 2 separately. Also just an overall amazing story with great characters and development. But I do want violet evergarden sometime in the future

Garrett Howard

I’ve seen quite a few recommendations in here for mushoku tensei, however, as cool as it is, I do agree with the “naysayers” as it just gets a bit too weird at times. I do think a decent replacement though if you haven’t already watched it (I’m a newer patron so still discovering everything and catching up 😅) is “that time I got reincarnated as a slime.” It’s another isekai anime and while it kinda looks weird at first it’s really good. Also, there’s a new season supposed to be coming out in April I believe so it’d be a good one to get caught up on

JsnSkg

But let's not gloss over the fact that that stuff isn't the core of MT by any means, and isn't all that happens. It's hilarious how some ppl actually just ignore literally everything else around a small aspect of the anime. Also in general, I find prudes who watch anime to be pretty funny. Anime is not for uptight prudes who take everything seriously. XD

JsnSkg

Never thought I'd end up liking Frieren as much as I do. After next week's episode, I'm definitely gonna read the manga.

To chime in on all the people talking about Mushoku Tensei, I think it's a good followup for this show, it's got an amazing atmosphere, the story and the world building are top tier. The way it handles the openings is the best I've ever seen it done in anime. The studio that animates it was formed by those who loved the source solely to give it the best anime possible, it's very clear how much the studio loves their show. It's just got a pretty high hurdle to get over that I absolutely don't blame anyone, new and old anime fans alike, for seeing it and going "nope". I think it's worth giving it a shot and just dropping it if the creepy parts are too much for you, because if you can get past it in my opinion the show is one of the best out there.

andwoo

Yeah if you're calling it on just some of the comments warning you, then that's probably the best choice

Sprucefer

A suggestion for another fantasy anime that I love is Ranking of Kings. Not sure if it's popular with enough people to get a reaction from you, but just wanted to mention it.

Aidan Suttie

I would say Vinland Saga personally as a replacement- a great storyline, a lack of weird shit that happens in a lot of other anime, and fantastic character development. Also it’s not too long of a series- however u do have to get through all the revenge stuff which does seem a bit intense and edgy for a lack of a better word In my opinion next best would be Hunter x Hunter and erased. Anyway, just my take

Aidan Suttie

Now that I think about it, also Steins Gate- but definitely getting on the weird side- but a great story

Ryo

Steins;Gate would be a great replacement when Code Geass ends I think. A certified classic with a story that can still outdo most anime that come out nowadays. The sci fi elements are grounded and immersive, even believable at times, and the writing is off the charts.

Y0m0three

Someone else mentioned it but I would advocate Vinland saga as a replacement for Frieren. It's a historical series with a darker tone that focuses on vikings and is probably one of the best anime I have ever watched in terms of story, emotion, and character development. I would highly recommend it to just about anyone as it has none of the pervy weirdness that turns a lot of people off of many anime. It's just a good show.

Y0m0three

There won't be a season 2 for a while. This season covers the first 7 volumes of the manga and there are only 9 out as of now, so until more of the story gets published we won't be seeing a season 2, I have no doubt it will happen one day though.

Forqen

The anime covered up to chapter 60 of the manga. There are currently 127 chapters and the latest volume is volume 12 so I don't know where the 9 is coming from.

PlasmaCell

Something to mention about when they brought up mana suppression. The reason why they note it to be impractical to use mana suppression is because of how long it takes to fool a demon. Granted it does have it's uses, but ultimately seems to take too much time and effort. Personally though, I do hope it at least allow demons to think twice before taking a fight.
