Content

This is a bit important so I hope you guys can spare a few minutes to read this.

So in short, there has been several cases of 2 or 3 "ghost patrons" who pledge, sample/download all the available posted content and then promptly delete their pledge. Only to repeat the offense, sometime later.

I'm powerless to avoid the issue. I have no access to the beta feature that allows me to charge upfront. This mechanic charges new patrons when they make their first pledge, so this doesn't affect existing patrons. It's a wonderful workaround for samplers but sadly it appears to be randomly given out to creators, so not everyone has access to it. And since I'm also relatively new to Patreon, it's only natural I don't have access to it yet.

There are many ways we could combat the issue, but many of them require restructuring tiers or changing the payment methods.
Making my patreon "pay per post" is the most effective, but the highest tier patrons would take a huge blow in terms of benefits and value content.
Restructuring tiers is another one. I could set fewer tiers and then have the rewards bundled into a compressed file and sent to patrons on payout day. However, not all patrons are active and some could miss the bundles entirely. This one is also rather aggressive as the lower tiers would take the brunt of it.

So, since I want my content to be accessible to my benefactors and keep things proper without troubling you guys, my only solution is to limit access to the polls and raffles for patrons who have been pledging for at least a month. In conventional terms: if you have been my patron for at least a month, you can access raffles and polls.
The rewards are monthly anyway, so there's little repercussions for any patron; regular and new ones.
I'll keep the bi-weekly raffle available to everyone, because it would be unfair for new patrons who actually stay with us not to have access to these rewards due to a few disagreeable people.

Once  I have access to the "pay upfront" feature I'll use that instead to avoid samplers.

Many thanks again for your continued support.
And sorry for the text wall >.<

It's a shame the feature isn't available for everyone since that's been a known issue for *years* at this point. Maybe you can contact patreon support and ask them about it? Since it happened to you already, there's a chance they could help.

It's definitely aggravating when people do that. Do they tell you when you are eligible for the upfront pay feature?

Sadly no. Eligibility is not related to the amount of patrons or the average pledge amount. It's either random or given after being a creator for some time. There is also no ETA on when this will happen, according to Patreon support.

Holy crap, you're right - I checked and it didn't charge me immediately but only on the 1st of the next month. I didn't even notice. I'm baffled why somebody thought this would be a good idea. o_O
