hey yall, i wanted to share this process cause its a little weird. here, i do the initial sketch like usual of course, then i select the colors and place them. next though, i convert the colors to black and white either by eyeing it or using a black and white filter if i feel like it looks right. then i do the black and white rough paint from there, and then take that original color and apply it over top as a color layer. after that i do the final paint like usual. it's really useful for extremely high contrast characters like this. normally i would go straight to black and white and i could adjust values using overlay, multiply or (more likely) normal layers if i needed to, but with high contrast pieces it's really important to me to visualize exactly how the values of the colors will look from the start so that i retain clarity when i muddy it up later with painting. more soon!
