This shows the main steps for the illustration.

Things to improve for next time: more prep work. This image started as a random doodle almost. I sort of hopped right into lighting it without thinking too much about the sketch and so while I'm happy with the final product I see a lot of lost potential. I've already started gathering as much reference as I can for the others in the series so this doesn't happen again.

Another thing I struggled with here is temperature. I had a primarily warm foreground, but for much of the painting I also had a primarily warm (if desaturated) background. I kept questioning why the painting looked muddy and didn't really figure it out until about halfway through. Again, more prep work, like rendering tests and a gamut mask would really help to solve that.

All this said, I really enjoyed just jumping into the painting and polishing over the course of a week or so. For next month I have a few text posts planned relating to art topics that I find myself talking about a lot on the Art Help Stream.

Thank ya'll for the continued support!
