In PVP I have found the following trick extremely useful, equivalent to a small % increase in dps and survivability. It is very useful in situations like the respective factions bases in Warsong Gulch, where just seeing the opponent's health bar isn't enough to tell you where a given player is due to multiple platforms and perspective confusion. You will never need to rely on someone shouting "roof" or "tunnel" again.

Landscape elements such as trees and buildings in warcraft load more slowly than other elements. You can prove this when in a forested area: set your raid/battleground settings to a higher number than your "normal" settings. What exactly you should set this number too depends on your connection speed and your computer's processing power. I have a relatively high-powered comp so for me normal is 1, and raid/bg is 10. Players with older comps may wish to try lower numbers for raid/bg.

You'll find when you hit "g" that the entire landscape reloads. If you try this in a forested area you'll see for some randomly determined time interval between 0-2 seconds that the landscape temporarily becomes a treeless plain-this is because trees take longer to load than the basic landscape. Moreover you will be able to see any mobs hidden behind the trees.

Experiment with this. You'll need to practice a little to speed up your vision - you will only get a fraction of a second to glimpse what is going in a battleground but after doing this a few times that becomes more than enough.

You gain from this in two main ways:

1. You can locate enemy and friendly players more easily, thereby reducing dps/heal downtime.

2. Greater survivability through accurate threat assessment.

Note that switching between the two settings additionally has the same effect as a freeze macro, indeed this method can also be used to reset jumping ability cooldowns while in mid-air enabling fantastic leaps into strange terrain that would normally be impossible. The downside of this is that you will need to make sure you can't be attacked when using the settings change as you won't be able to respond during the switch.

*If your comp is so old that you find that the screen freezes for too long to make this practical you will find there is an interesting compensation: you may be able to walk straight through temporary barriers, something which is impossible for high-powered comps. For example before upgrading my computer I could regularly walk into the alliance keep in Isle Of Conquest when logging out and logging in while spamming run. I could also walk straight into Baron Rivendare's area in service entrance Stratholme greatly simplifying mount runs.
