I have been experimenting with farming mounts, and have been compiling a guide to exploits which assist with this.

Rare mounts in-world are naturally very difficult to farm since the point of them is that a) mobs which drop rare mounts spawn very infrequently making them rare and b) because of a) large numbers of players compete for the mobs.

Programs like cross-realm assist, which have currently been nerferd heavily, allowed you to travel to different realms where the rares might be up but increase competition generally across the realmverse.

An approach I've been using is to use class trial characters to farm rare mounts. This allows you to do something cross-realm add-ons never did: focus on underpopulated realms.

There are two methods I use to determine a realm population: use this database https://www.wowprogress.com/realms/rank/eu and select population to find the lowest pop realms. An addition not always mutually exclusive option is to use the /who command in game. You can order this by level, eg /who 110 will give a list of all 110's in the game, or by zone, eg /who storm peaks will give you a list of all players in Storm Peaks/Northrend.

I've been experimenting with this method with the Draenor Frostfire Ridge Mob Nok-Karosh. This mob has the enormous advantage for experimentation purposes of dropping a mount ("Garn Nighthowl") 100% of the time. Unlike with rare mounts where you'd want to select a low pop realm here you want medium pop realms for reasons which will become clear.

Create a horde class trial character, and port out of the tutorial area to your garrison using your garrison hearthstone. Fly left towards Nok-Karosh on the west coast of Frostfire Ridge. Wait till Nok-Karosh spawns if he is not there already. You will not be able to kill Nok-Karosh at level 100 but there will usually be a 110 aroundto kill the boss for you - this is why you choose a medium-pop realm. One hit will ensure you get the mount.

Simply log-on to different class trial characters in the same location to repeat the process. I tend to this concurrently with the rogue vendor farm I mentioned recently. You do not need many class trials to do this (say, four) as Nok-Karosh respawns relatively quickly.

Average price of the mount is 3,300G across all EU realms currently. You can easily do six of these an hour with multiple class trials making 20K per hour quite possible (my record is 12 kills in an hour).

The disadvantage with this as a gold farm is that while the mount generally sells quickly when priced efficiently this leaves you with gold spread across a number of realms. You can transfer it back using various methods such as buying and selling pets cross-realm but it isn't trivial to transfer large amounts of gold.
