IMDD CHAPTER 263 (Patreon)

Gage and Eva sat in silence, waiting for the results of the DNA test, when Eva's phone rang.
Eva glanced at the screen — it was Adele.
Not wanting to disturb Gaia, who was now sleeping in Gage’s arms, Eva gestured at Gage before stepping away to answer the call.
"Adele, what's up?" Eva asked.
"Ma’am, I need to give you something very important, something about your husband," Adele's voice was hushed but urgent. "Can you meet me outside the hospital? I’m very sorry but I can't leave the kids here in the car by themselves."
"Okay, I'll be right there.”
Upon ending the call, Eva returned to Gage and Gaia.
"I need to step out for a moment. Adele has something important for me." Eva told Gage in a hushed voice.
“Can’t you just ask them to bring whatever that thing is to you?”
“It’s fine. She’s just right outside the entrance anyway,” Eva insisted. “I'll be back immediately." She smiled at him, then after glancing at Gaia’s sleeping face, she walked away and hastily headed towards the entrance.
As Eva stepped out of the hospital corridor, she immediately saw Adele’s car.
She walked towards it. Her heels clicked rhythmically against the concrete as she approached the car.
Just as she was about to reach Adele’s car, a powerful grip encircled her arm, startling her.
In a fluid, almost rehearsed motion, she was yanked forcefully towards a vehicle that screeched to halt just behind her. Her heart hammered in her chest, adrenaline flooding her system as she tried to resist, but her efforts were futile against the overwhelming strength of the man gripping her.
Before she could muster a scream, she was thrust into the backseat of the car. Two other men loomed over her. With swift movements, they restrained her, one clamping a rough hand over her mouth to stifle her cries for help. The other quickly blindfolded her.
Then the car lurched forward, accelerating so rapidly that the force pushed her back against the seat.
…
Gage looked calm as he sat there, holding a sleeping child in his arms. But if one would look closely into those dark eyes of his, they would see a dangerous storm brewing, getting more violent, the longer Eva’s absence stretched.
If it hadn't been for Gaia sleeping peacefully in his arms, he would have been long gone to search for Eva the moment he sensed her absence was prolonged. He didn’t want to disturb the child’s slumber, especially since she had just fallen asleep. He also reasoned to himself that Eva’s business with that Adele must be just taking a bit longer and that he was just being paranoid again, just like always, every time Eva was not with him.
However, his patience soon ran out. He couldn’t take it anymore.
Just as he was about to rise, the doctor approached. With a smile on his face, he handed over the DNA test results to Gage. "You and little Gaia are 100 percent related. She is really your daughter, sir." The doctor said, his tone congratulatory.
Gage's world seemed to halt at that moment. His heart skipped a beat, then hammered against his chest. He didn’t know how to react. How could that be possible? He had quietly gone along with this but inwardly, he wasn’t expecting anything at all. He was even confident that Eva would finally wake up and accept the reality once she saw the result. So how… how did this… did Eva do something? But… there’s no way Eva would do something like that!
Gaia stirred in his arms, her murmured words cutting through his shock. "Daddy?" Gaia rubbed her eyes and looked up at him, her expression turning to one of distress. "Where is mommy?" she asked, her eyes welling up with tears. "I saw her... someone took her away."
Gage's heart stopped.
He turned towards the window, his mind racing, then clutching Gaia close, he rushed outside, desperation fueling his steps.
As soon as he stood outside the hospital's entrance, his eyes scanned the surroundings with a predator's intensity.
His jaw clenched, teeth gritting in a mixture of fear and anger. The realization hit him like a physical blow – Eva was not here anymore! Gaia was right! She was taken.
