Eva nearly broke down once again when the butler handed her the marriage certificate, confirming that she was now truly married to Gage. The butler told her that Gage had instructed him to give her the certificate once she awoke. But apparently, that was all the butler knew.

So, Eva could do nothing but contain her emotions as she stared at the marriage certificate—her signature alongside Gage’s. It looked incredibly authentic. How had this happened? Eva could only deduce that Gage must have used some supernatural means—something that wasn’t even shocking to her.

However, what truly stunned her was the date on the certificate. It was the same day she had signed their contract—the night she first set foot in this house.

Eva could hardly believe it. Could it be that that night, she hadn’t signed a mere agreement but a marriage certificate? And now, it appeared she had been married to Gage for a month?

“That... little devil...” Eva murmured, her hands trembling slightly due to the swell of emotion within her. Because she knew that Gage definitely did this to secure her future once he was gone.

“Miss, are you alright?” The butler’s concerned voice made Eva steel herself and force a smile.

“Yes, I’m fine.”

“Then, I’ll go inform the master that you’ll join him in a while.”

The moment the butler left, Eva slid to the floor, uttering Gage’s name brokenly.

That same morning, while Eva and George were having their conversation, Hunter arrived.

Both Eva and George immediately knew, just by seeing the man’s face, that Hunter was there to deliver bad news. The once-bright and almost annoyingly energetic superstar now wore a different expression. His eyes were dark and shadowed.

The moment he opened his mouth, their suspicions were confirmed.

Hunter told them that the private plane Gage had boarded at dawn had gone missing.

George, refusing to believe Hunter, immediately made a series of phone calls on his own. However, when the same bad news was confirmed to him, the elder collapsed.

Outside the emergency room, Eva and Hunter sat next to each other.

“How is he?” Eva asked, worry gleaming in her eyes.

Hunter took a deep breath. “Don't worry, he's going to be fine. He'll probably just take a while to wake up, like always.”

Eva nodded, steeling herself. She hadn't known George for long, but the elder had been so good to her since the moment they met. From the instant he saw her, he'd treated her as if she was so much more than just his grandson's employee. George had shown her warmth and respect, something she'd never felt from her former so-called family.

“By the way, Miss Lee…” Hunter paused. “Wait... right, you're not actually a Lee anymore.”

He sighed before Eva could respond. “That damned little…” He facepalmed. “I still can't believe he seriously pulled off something like that, and I didn't find out? Where on earth did you two even get married?”

Eva swiftly looked away from Hunter and remained silent.

Her silence made Hunter bite his lip, and his voice turned apologetic. “I'm sorry... I know it's hard for you to talk about him, but... did he... did he tell you anything else? He told me we would forget about him, but it's been hours and..."

“What did you say?” Eva interrupted him, causing Hunter to frown.

“He didn't tell you anything... about this? That he would be erased from everyone's memory once he's gone?”

Eva slowly shook her head. She immediately remembered that moment when Gage had wanted to tell her something, but she stopped him. Was that what he was going to tell her last night? That she would forget about him?

“Seriously…” Hunter groaned, then exhaled deeply, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. “I thought you at least knew about that.”

“I didn’t let him talk about it,” Eva murmured. “Because I didn’t want to hear it.”

Silence reigned between them for a while before Hunter spoke again. “He told me he's going to leave and... he's not coming back.” Slumping forward, he buried his face in his hands. “When I asked him if he needed me to do something... he told me I didn’t need to do anything because, he said, everyone, including you, me, and grandpa, will forget about his existence. I knew he wasn’t lying then, but...” The creak of the emergency room doors interrupted him. As George was wheeled out, Hunter straightened up, his posture rigid.

“If that’s really going to happen...” Hunter continued in a low voice, “it better happen soon before grandpa wakes up.”

Eva watched Hunter walk towards his grandfather. It dawned on her then that Hunter didn’t hate or resented his brother like she had once suspected. Instead, she sensed genuine affection, perhaps even love. Otherwise, Hunter wouldn't have sounded so heartbroken, so abandoned and even slightly angry as he spoke about his brother not coming back anymore.
