Eva kissed him with everything she had, trying to convey through that kiss that she didn't blame him. She wanted him to know that she would never fear him, that even the darkness that he carried within didn’t matter to her. At all.
When they finally broke the kiss, both of them were breathless, their foreheads pressed together as they tried to catch their breath.
"Thank you… Thank you for coming for me," she whispered. "Thank you for saving me… Gage… you're really my angel."
The corner of his lips lifted. "Did you just… call me 'angel,' darling?" he asked, his voice husky.
"Can't I call you that?" she replied.
"You know I'm no angel, Eva."
"But to me, you are.” Her blue eyes seemed to light up in the dark. “No matter what you are, you will always be the one and only angel of my life, Gage."
Her words seemed to hit him with a force he wasn't prepared for. He froze, his eyes dilating.
Biting her lip, she reached up to pinch his cheek. "You're not actually expecting me to be scared of you, are you, Gage?"
For a moment, emotions flickered across his face, and then, with a low, almost primal growl, he finally reacted. He had pinned her against the bed with an intensity that left her breathless.
“You should be, Eva.” he whispered hoarsely. His eyes turned blood red once again, and then two large horns materialized on his head.
Eva's widened eyes fixed on those unsettling, otherworldly appendages. She swallowed hard, her heart thudding loudly in her chest. The sight was both haunting and overpowering, and yet she couldn't tear her gaze away from it.
Her hand trembled, but she couldn't resist the urge to reach out and touch those… supposedly scary horns. She was nervous, but not scared. It seems… that dream had helped her no longer be surprised. Because right now, all she was feeling was intrigue and disbelief—disbelief that she was finally seeing this for real and even about to touch it.
Gently, she extended her fingers, brushing against the surface of the horns. A soft gasp escaped her lips as a tingling sensation spread through her hand.
"It... feels really... hard," she commented, her voice filled with wonder and curiosity. Her eyes gleamed with fascination, completely enthralled by this mystical sight before her.
"Of course, they're hard..." she then corrected herself, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. "I mean, they're supposed to be. You're a devil, after all."
Gage watched her with an intensity that bordered on disbelief. However, he didn’t look shocked that she was this fearless. That she was touching him, being fascinated of him, rather than running away.
"You really are something else, Eva," he said, his voice tinged with a mix of admiration and amusement. "Most would tremble at the sight of these horns, and yet here you are, exploring them like a child discovering a new wonder."
A shy smile played on Eva's lips as she continued to trace the intricate curves of his horns. "I can't help it," she said, her eyes locked with his. "It's all so fascinating, so... I can’t even explain."
She seemed to render Gage momentarily speechless once again, his crimson eyes locked onto hers with an intensity that made her heart race.
But then, like a lightning bolt, a thought suddenly struck Eva. "Right!" she exclaimed, her eyes widening with realization. "What... what time is it? The deadline... I'm not late yet, right?!"
Gage's silence and unreadable expression held her in suspense, and her heart thudded loudly in her chest.
Just as denial began to hit her, Gage gently pinched her chin, and a warm smile spread across his face. "Don’t cry," he said, his voice soft and reassuring. "Don’t worry, you still have time left before the deadline."
Eva felt like her entire world moved once again. A wave of relief washed over her, and she let out the breath she was holding back.
Without wasting a moment, she cupped his face, her eyes so clear and intense, showing no hint of doubt or hesitation. "Yes, Gage…" she uttered after a couple of deep breaths. "I will marry you."
