“You people believe me now?! Hahaha, I told you, didn’t I?” Julian laughed like insanity was finally taking full control of him. “I told you, didn’t I? This one’s a real monster!!!”

“Stoppp!!!” Eva screamed, her voice filled with anguish and desperation. Tears bursting out of her eyes.

“Haha, shut up, Eva.” Julian pointed his gun at Gage again. Obvious fear was now dripping in his voice upon the realization that Gage was getting much closer. “One more step, and I’ll blow your brain out!!!”

Utter fear coursed through Eva as she watched with bated breath how Gage still lifted his feet nonetheless to take another step. And when she saw Julian’s finger about to pull the trigger, she wailed, calling out Gage’s name. “Gage!!!!”

Gage suddenly stopped. The gunshots stopped as well.

Eva’s entire being was trembling so violently as the room was filled with nothing but the sound of ragged breaths, not from Gage but from Eva, Julian, and the mercenaries.

“Wow! So, it seems I am wrong?” Julian broke the silence. “Am I seeing this right? He’s listening only to you?”

Another hysteric laugh echoed. “This is fucking interesting!!! Hahaha!!! Now Eva, it seems it’s finally time to move to the next show. Now tell him to show his real self, Eva. Tell him to show everything he is still hiding! I believe this isn’t all he could show us!! I know he has some kind of superpowers!!! Now tell him to show us, Eva!!!” Eva winced in pain as Julian's grip tightened around her jaw with a cruel force. She could feel the pressure building, threatening to snap her bones under his merciless grip.

But Eva couldn’t even care about that anymore. She couldn’t explain what she felt anymore as she stared at Gage. Why… why must this happen? Gage… why… please… this was just a nightmare, right?

She couldn’t bare it any longer. This sight of Gage… she cannot bear it anymore… all she wanted was to go to him, to hug him. To shield him from any more bullets. God… Gage was the only person left by her side. She didn’t have anyone but him. She could no longer imagine a life without him, a future without him. Why… why was this happening?

“Are you fucking listening to me?!!!” Julian barked at her. “Oh, you want me to shoot him again before you obey, huh?”

BANG!!!

Eva’s eyes darkened as she watched another bullet pierce right through Gage’s chest.

“Now tell him!!! Tell him to show his real self. To show us more of his monstrous abilities!! Now Eva!! Or I’ll blast his head next!!! This could kill him, you know? Like those zombies in movies!”

"Gage... please," Eva finally choked out, her voice quivering. And then she suddenly screamed at the top of her lungs. “RUN!!! ESCAPE NOW GAGE!!! GO –”

“You fucker!!!” Julian wrapped his palm around her throat in utter rage, cutting her voice. But when he saw that Gage didn’t move, he laughed and eased his hands around Eva’s throat.

"Oh, so you're not running away? So I was wrong, then? You don't actually listen to anyone? What must I do for you to reveal more of yourself? A monster?! You didn't react when I said I'd kill her, so what could be the trigger for you to..." Julian's voice trailed off, a flicker of madness gleamed and then danced in his eyes. "Maybe... it'll help if I do something deranged to this woman?" He lowered his gun and slid its tip under Eva’s waistband. "How about I violate and rape Eva’s cunt with this gun right before your eyes--"

Before Eva's eyes, Gage vanished.

And in an instant, darkness engulfed her vision, as if a veil she couldn’t even feel had been cast over her eyes. Then her hearing faded as well. But before all her senses seemed to be magically and abruptly cut off, she heard a piercing scream—a cry of agonizing pain unmistakably belonging to Julian.
