He towered before her as he leaned against the door frame lazily, not letting her enter. He was half naked and looking at how dry he was, it seemed he was done with his shower for quite a while already.

“If I remember correctly, you used to happily run away the moment I failed to open the door on your first knock.” He raised a brow, tone teasing and low.

“H-happily…” she stammered a little before retorting, cheeks tainted a dark pink as Gage pointed out her previous actions. “How did you even know I ‘happily’ ran away when you were inside your room, locking yourself up?” She challenged.

He tilted his head, leaning it against the door frame as he crossed his arms over his front. “I deduced that based on how excitedly fast and light your footsteps were as you left.”

She could not help but blush once again at his recounting. Because well, he was actually right. However, she had not thought that he would have paid such close attention even to the way she had run off gleefully, every single time when his door did not open upon her one light knock.

Clearing her throat, she let her gaze travel down his taut and bare chest, before peering up at him with slightly narrowed eyes. “So, are you not going to let me in?”

He half bit on his lower lip before he slowly released it. “I wanted to waive tonight so you can rest. You’re going into the battlefield by yourself tomorrow after all. So, it’s fine. This one’s on me –”

“No.” Eva cut him off. “I’m not a little girl for you to worry about constantly,Gage.” She tipped her chin up, smiling confidently at him.

She pushed the door and entered like she owned the room before looking back at him over her shoulder. “Also, I’ve already missed too many nights failing to do my task, Gage.”

“I’ve told you, haven't I?” He did not close the door and just stood there, still leaning against the door frame. Only this time, he angled his body such that he was looking to the inside where his bedroom is. “I’ve been accumulating what you owe me.”

“That’s why I must not add up what I owe anymore.” Eva smoothly replied to him, earning yet another helpless smile.

“You don’t actually owe that much since most of those times you failed were my fault.”

Eva stilled for a while at his response. But then suddenly, she threw herself on his bed. Causing Gage to bite down on his lip again as he ran his fingers through his hair.

He finally moved away from the door and when he headed towards his dressing room, Eva looked at the door he had left open. Gage had never done that before…

Gage only came out of the dressing room once her time was almost up.

He was all dressed up now as he stood there, leaning lazily while looking at her.

Unable to keep her mouth shut anymore, Eva spoke while she laid on her side, facing him. “You’re acting strange tonight, Gage. Are you… upset?”

He blinked once, looking a little surprise before he smiled, lifting a brow at her.

“What would you do if I say ‘yes’, hm, darling?” he asked, his voice incredibly low again. But Eva somehow could tell that he was not actually upset about anything. And that only made her feel even more curious as to why he was suddenly acting this way. What was he trying to get at?

“Come over here, first.” She patted the empty side of the bed. “I’ll tell you.”

He held her gaze for some moments but eventually sauntered towards the bed. He sat next to her, bracing his palm on the mattress as he looked down at her.

“Lie down.” She ordered softly.

He tilted his head.

“Lie down, Gage.” She repeated, causing his smile to widen.

But again, he obeyed. “You know that you’re the one acting all strange tonight, right? Eva?” He mumbled as he stretched out on the bed when suddenly, Eva wrapped her arms around him, hugging him, causing him to turn completely stiff and still.

And then, her alarm echoed, indicating that Eva had broken the rule as she had touched him before her time was up.
