"You're not going to stop me, right?" Eva asked, staring deeply into his dark eyes. She was obviously too focused, as if afraid to miss out on any messages that might cross those tantalizing orbs of his.

Gage held her gaze for what felt like an extended amount of time before answering, "In all honesty… I want to." And there was a hard glint that sparkled in his eyes for a moment before disappearing, being replaced by gentleness and indulgence.

"But you're not going to." she replied softly. But her tone was one that was full of confidence, somehow knowing that he would not go against her wishes, especially in this particular matter.

A small helpless smile graced his face. “I know you’re unstoppable, Eva. And I don’t think you’re going to like it even if I did try to stop you.”

She blinked at him, speechless. Right now, she could see it, feel it, that Gage truly wanted to stop her. He was not joking in the least. He truly did not want her to go back. At all.

“Is it… it’s because of our contract, right?” she asked, wanting to know why he was lookingso against her decision to go back to XY.

Gage stilled for a second before he sighed heavily, the tip of his tongue touched the corner of his lips.

The next thing Eva knew, she was pinned on top of the CEO’s desk. Her eyes were wide in shock as she looked at him leaning over, his long and powerful body sandwiched in between her legs.

Eva really found it so impossibly fascinating how this man could move so fast, maneuvering and moving her around like she was made of paper!

Her lips opened to speak but the moment she looked up at his face that was looming over hers, she lost all abilities of speech. There it goes again, that look in his eyes. That dangerous and intense look that made her heart tremble and flutter with both excitement and fear.

Fear? No, it should not be described as such. If that waswhat she was feeling, then why was she not protesting or trying to push him away? Why was it that seeing Gage like this only served to make her feel like wanting to just stay there and look on and wait for what he was going to show her next?

But then again, before anything else happened, that look disappeared. All too soon, he was completely back to the usual calm and composed Gage.

Another helpless smirk crossed his handsome features. “What made you think that this is all because of the contract, hmm? Darling?” he asked in his usual patient tone, lifting her chin with his fingers.

She blinked.

“I’m wrong…? Then, why…”

Gage did not answer but just stared at her.

But his silence was more than enough for an answer to her. He was worried about something and that was why he wanted to stop her. Could he be worried that the Youngs might do something to her?

“Don’t worry, Gage.” She told him. “I know them. They’re not going to do anything to me at all while I’m useful to them. That much, I can assure you.”

He left out another quiet sigh after staring down deeply into her eyes for another few moments.

“I still don’t trust them, Eva. I’d like to give you a secret bodyguard just in case some crazy bastard might pull off something funny.”

“Secret bodyguard…?”

“I’ve actually been planning to have you tailed and watched in secret from now on. But if I do that without letting you know, you might not like it. So, I’m telling you now. You’re not going to get mad at me for this, right, Eva?”

“I don’t mind but… my grandfather’s security is also pretty tight. So, if you’re sending one, I want them to be very careful and not try to come too close to me or try to infiltrate into the company. I can’t risk having them gettingsuspicious of me if the secret bodyguards are caught. I mean…they're supposed to be secret, right?” And Eva grinned a little mischievously at Gage, which only made him smile helplessly back at her.

“You know I’m not going to put you into such risky position, Eva.”

“I know.” Her smile turned soft. “So… we’re good now, right?”

He only lifted a brow.

“I know I’ve said something that made you uhm… well, I’m not sure but… you suddenly pinned me down like this and made that look so…”

“That look…?”

Eva bit on her lower lip before she sighed. “I don’t know how to describe it.”

He innocently cocked his head, not saying anything as he stared down at her.

And my dear author will continue to leave us wanting to know what the hell Gage is. [Spoiler Alert for those who haven't read Hellbound With You] Interesting that in Alex's case, I only realized that he was more of a human only when the existence of vampires was revealed. I was like: what the hell?? Isn't this story a slice of life??? But Alex also gave a lot of signs that he wasn't human, not entirely. And here we are with our dear Gage looking as if he's going to eat someone alive. His deadly stare. It's not human.
