IMDD CHAPTER 39 [NOVEL] (Patreon)

She pressed her lips tightly together for a moment before responding. “Look here, Gage. I am not going to –”
“You have nothing to be afraid of, Eva.” He cut her off, not allowing her to finish. “I’m not going to touch you without your permission. I’m not that type of a man in case you’re still having doubts.”
Eva could not help but bite the insides of her cheeks hard. Of course, she knew that already! If he was that type of a man, she would have been a goner since the first night she had slept in his bed itself. By now, she was not even worried about him at all!! What she was worried about was herself! She was just trying to put herself in check because she had already found out that she had this inexplicable weakness when it comes to his touch and kisses!
Distraction was the last thing she needed at these crucial moments. Yes, she found any romantic relationships or affairs a massive distraction to her and her work. And this was why she was trying so hard to stay away from it. At whatever the cost it takes.
“I know that –” she muttered out.
“Then be a good girl, lie down and go to sleep. I won’t do anything to you…” Gage told her as he waved to her side of the bed.
“But… but I might do something to you!” she finally blurted out with eyes wide and cheeks burning. She instantly regretted saying that at all, of course.
“That’s not a problem with me. I don’t think you’ll do anything other than turning me into your personal pillow anyway.” He replied rather casually, rendering Eva speechless. “So stop taking everything so seriously and sleep. Now, Eva.”
That look in his eyes had her unable to protest anymore. So, she could only listen and lie down, turning her back to face him. Well, he was right. Nothing to worry about since she would be dead asleep anyway, right? She would not even remember whatever she would end up doing to him. Then she snickered to herself.
Soon, her eyes quickly became heavy. She did not know why, but she seemed to always fall asleep so easily when she was next to him in bed.
‘Must be just coincidence…’ she told herself before she finally drifted off into dreamland.
Later that night, Eva started to move around in bed. She turned and scooted herself towards the source of warmth – towards Gage. When her arms and legs wrapped around him, a slow smile curved over his lips.
Without opening his eyes, he turned to face her, draped his arm around her and pulled her closer against him.
…
The next morning, Eva somehow managed to wriggle out and escape from Gage’s embrace without waking him up.
That was much better for her because she really did not like constantly getting embarrassed before him. It was hard enough for her not to think about the feeling of it though…
But as always, Eva managed to clear her head and completely shift her focus on nothing else but her work.
And so that day, the duo had finally ended the first day with a flourish. Eva was actually pretty amazed at Gage the entire time he was dealing with their business partners. He was actually such an amazing and charming CEO, if not the most charming businessman she had ever seen.
She could not help but wonder what trick was it that Gage was hiding, for him to charm everyone so easily like that! At the same time, she could not help but feel a little mad that he was not actually that interested in the job he was so good at!
“H-how’s it?” Eva asked as she left the dressing room of a luxury salon.
Gage was sitting there, already impeccably dressed, waiting for her to be done. He was invited by the most powerful businessman in this city to attend his birthday party tonight and Eva of course, was going as his plus one for the night.
“Not bad, Miss Lee.” He smiled with an appreciative twinkle in his eyes, unable to take his gaze off her.
“You sure this isn’t too showy?” Eva asked, a bit worried as she fiddled with her dress and pulled a little at the sheer satiny shawl that draped over her shoulders.
“This is not too showy at all, Eva.” He whispered reassuringly in her ear once he approached her.
“You will be surprised to see how you’d still be one of the most decently clothed at the party tonight. Still easily the most stunning though.” He then winked at her.
Eva flushed at his last line. She still could not get used to his generous praises even though she should really get used to it by now because Gage had always been such a polite man. She had seen multiple times how smooth he was in praising others and making anyone feel good.
“Thank you, Sir.” She replied, accepting his outstretched hand.
The staffs in the salon were staring at them both. Gaping even as they left. They made such a good-looking couple that it was impossible for others to not follow after them with their gazes.
Soon, they finally arrived at the party’s location. It was a luxurious modern mansion at the top of a hill in the middle of the city.
Just as Eva was about to take Gage’s hand to leave the car, she suddenly stilled. Her eyes widening as she looked through the car’s window.
Gage of course immediately noticed her expression and followed her line of sight.
And the moment Gage saw the pair she was looking at, the corners of his lips lifted up almost viciously.
“So that’s Evangeline Young’s ex-fiancé and sister, huh?” He commented casually, causing Eva’s gaze to fly to him. She was shocked that he could guess it almost immediately upon seeing the couple. But then again, a capable young master such as himself… should she have expected less?
“Let’s hang around here for a while and enjoy the night air. It seems quite fresh and lively tonight.” He added before Eva could say a word.
“Why?” she blinked and tilted her head sideways, curious at what made him suddenly want to hang around here when they were early to arrive.
“No reason in particular, darling. Let’s just say… I feel like stealing the show tonight.” He replied with a wicked smile on his face.
