Aaaaaand here are the previous two pieces for the Ecopunk book in color!

What is curious to myself is how my brain seemingly has multiple coloring modes, and each of those modes usually switches on even before I start sketching, thus influencing what and ow I am actually going to draw and ink:

1) commissions and personal drawings - these I can almost never imagine in anything but monochrome. A tint of my "golden" tone, or a splatter of red, sure, but not much else!

2) pinups, covers and illustrations - limited palette all the way. Very rarely I get to draw a cover where I actually feel like I can say anything else than the lineart with my added colors, you know? Using just 3-4 colors to separate layers, elements and ideas in the piece always seems more natural and meaningful than just "listing" every color that could be there.

3) Finally, comics/videogames  -  Ideally, I'd probably want to color my comics by myself, but after Undertow, I know that this labour could actually kill me; plus, collaborating with a colorist could be the biggest fun of working in comics! But for Cantata, I find immeasurable amount of fun in coloring every single little piece of each character myself, quite literally rendering them into their life on the screen. Probably because the game itself is so colorful, and it tunes me into the right mood and gives me the right aim?

This is why I get so flustered and surprised when someone like my man Sergey effortlessly adds additional layers of meaning and atmosphere to my pieces that were 100% conceived in monochrome.
