PHEW! Welp - 

Finally, we're getting to some of those page recreation! WOOOH! And If you followed me on twitter in the last couple of years, you probably know that I was CLAMOURING for a chance to recreate this one <3 It's the ONE piece I've been dying to draw for ages and ages and ages. So much so, that after completing it, I'm now getting weirdly emotional (and kinda exhausted!) thanks to closing such a huge gestalt. People dream about careers at DC, but I just dream of drawing things I love and not starving in the process.

Moreover, this issue of New Gods was a huuuuuge influence on both me and Artyom Doomov back when we worked on "Yesaul" last year. Steppenwolf seems to be partially inspired by Baron Ungern and his atrocities (even though we can't find any "evidence" of it) - same way the the Old Man was in our own little comic.

So, when working on this piece, I naturally looped back to many of our symbols and details from "Yesaul":
