Yesterday good dude Mikael Lopez announced our short comic titled "A Cold Place Between the Shores" which will be  included in Mikael's upcoming collection of stories by the same name, so I figured I might do a little post about my hectic so-called-coloring process!

Here we go! Basically, when I want to save some time to my colorists, OR when I want to have my pages in greyscale (because I am super insecure about my raw inks), I do simple 2-layers toning - with 25% and 50% black.

Something like this:

(Heeeeeey, wait, what's this page from?!)

Now, when you have these two separate layers, you also have enough wiggle room to pretend to be a stylish colorist yourself!

Step 1 - coming up  with a shitty palette of 5 random colors by accident:

(Yes, this is an old process picture from Slavic Nihilism #2)

Step 2 - applying it to actual work months later:

Bada bing - bada bang!

Step 3 - listening to your writer and trying to tone it the fuck down:

Step 4 - coming up with an actual decent color scheme:

Step 5... Well, probably rehashing this color scheme 5 or 6 times more in the next couple of years!

Actually, you could look at my work very closely and notice a certain pattern in it:

(MAN I DID A LOT OF PINUPS FOR IMAGE COMICS WHEN UNDERTOW WAS STILL HOT)

I think I should go to prison for this.
