Not at all inspired by the protagonist of Ghostbusters Afterlife.

Was that movie any good? I've heard conflicting opinions that seem to depend on how much you like '80's nostalgia.

Nostalgia definitely helps, I'm a huge GB fan, so I'm biased, but I'd say 75% was very fine. Not a similar tone to the original but an interesting direction for the subject, just wish the more novel ideas were explored more.

I’m torn. On one hand, I found it to be a sincere ode to the original, and 80s movies in general. The focus on the younger cast in a small town made it feel almost like The Goonies. On the other hand, it feels so rooted in the 80s that the writers almost forgot that it takes place in present day, and that many of the premise’s conflicts could have been solved with a cell phone before the movie even started. (Yes, there is a throwaway line about the poor reception, but still.) I enjoyed it, but I feel like sentimentality, reverence for its own lore, and lingering glamour shots on the tech wasn’t what made the first movie great. It was just a sci-fi comedy that a studio was willing to risk a ton of money on, and it somehow stumbled into being a cultural phenomenon. It also featured Dan Aykroyd getting throated by a ghost. (The original, not Afterlife. That’s one scene they didn’t try to nostalgia-bomb us with.)

Yeah...funny thing, that. "Nostalgia fetishization" is a new concept to me, but GB: A sounds as if it crossed that particular line, especially with all the creepy lingering shots on the ancient Ghostbuster tech. Still, I saw some leaked footage of the new Gozer on Youtube, and I'll be the first to admit she looks effin' SICK.
