The Golden Age of Comics is generally considered to span from their introduction in 1938 to about 1956, when superhero comics took a sharp nose-dive due to both the popularity of crime and horror comics, as well as pressure from the federal government. The Golden Age had many, many companies producing many, many, many comics and characters. Most books were several dozen pages thick with several different characters.
