41 years ago today, Sally Ride became the first U.S. woman to go to space. She was bisexual but this was not publicly acknowledged until her obituary in 2012. At the time of her death, she had been in a relationship with a woman for 27 years.

You probably have not noticed this, but public institutes in the Iron Harbor universe are named for scientists, educators, and creatives., LGBTQ ones if at all possible. This is why Black Tiger went to Sally Ride High School in South Iron Harbor, and why Blue Bolt got his degree at Alan Turing University.

It's unfortunate that the new space telescope was named after James Webb...Webb was strongly anti LGBTQ and was the motivating factor which led to the expulsion of many talented NASA employees who were found to be gay.
