The Very One I Love
words and music : Terry Scott Taylor
©2017 Shape OF Air Music, BMI

I am hungry for it
Crying out for it
‘Cos I can only go so far
Be more than amazed with it
I want to bathe in it
Fall into the Morning Star

I’m on the outside of the world
I’m on the wrong side of the door
I want to wear the brightness of the sun
Drink deep the glory
And thirst no more

I wanna dance (inside your beauty)
I wanna laugh (inside your splendor)
I wanna pass through the passing shadows of the world
Into the very One I love

I am broken for it
I am dying for it
Beyond these hints of coming things
More than awe and wonder, I want to breathe the thunder
Feel latter rain flow through my veins

I’m on the outside looking in
Through a glass too dark to see behind it all
Left with a longing to embrace
The shapes and shadows on the wall

I wanna dance (inside your beauty)
I wanna laugh (inside your splendor)
I wanna pass through the passing shadows of the world
Into the very One I love

I’m on the outside of the world
I’m on the wrong side of the door
I want to wear the brightness of the sun,
Drink deep the glory
And thirst no more

I wanna dance (inside your beauty)
I wanna laugh (inside your splendor)
I wanna pass the through the passing shadows of the world
Into the very One I love
Into the very One I love…..

instruments and vocals: T.S. Taylor

Absolutely love this beautiful song. Lately, I’ve been listening a lot to John Mark McMillan’s newest CD “Mercury & Lightning,” whose theme is a hunger and chasing after God and never seeming to latch onto it. For me, this song took JMM’s thoughts/meditations and musically packaged them into a “Terry Taylor” song (my favorite style of musical packaging, by the way). Such a great treat to wake up to this Monday morning, to start my own chasing, hunger, crying out, and “wanna’s” this week. Once again, thank you so much for speaking to me through your music, as you have so many times over the decades.

Nice. Another nail hit on the head. Reminds me of 'Looking and Waiting' from Bruce Cockburn's new album. Similar 'through (UK spelling) a glass darkly' sentiments.
