Oh my, all the rain we didn't get last Summer is coming down at once. It's spectacular.

I took a much-needed walk with one of the kids today, the rain was fairly mild when we left but part way through it picked up again and we got a bit of a soak.

We stopped at the local bakery and picked up some fattigmann, a type of cookie my grandma liked very much but didn't get time to make very often. This year I'm following her tradition: I have the recipe and the tools but not the time. The ones from the bakery are lovely, of course, but the ones made at home are always better. My family also used to make krumkake, rosettes and sandbakkels for Christmas. These are all cookies that take specialty gear and I have inherited it all. Maybe I'll do a little over the next few weeks, now that the main Christmas business is done.

My mom makes lefse every year. It's a kind of thin rolled potato bread thing and this year she made a lot of it, both for the family meals and to share with her friends. My great-grandma used to make it on top of a wood stove, but my mom has a large electric skillet for it that, as far as I can tell, they make specifically to sell to Americans of Norwegian descent. Grandpa's been dead for a long time so we no longer have to eat the lutefisk. I miss Grandpa but not the fish.

We're looking forward to the New Year. We have friends from San Francisco who come up here to visit their family for Christmas and then spend New Year's Eve playing board games with us. Covid put a hole in an otherwise ~30 year streak and we'll be happy to see them again.

We hope you have something fun planned, even if it's a nice quiet evening at home. I still remember my friend who works at City Light, who had to work all night on New Year's eve 1999 just in case something went horribly wrong. Fun times.

Thank you, everyone! I hope you enjoy this very-light-on-dialogue page!
