12:30 from what I understand is that a large portion of black people in the US want to make a point they aren't from there? I've never really understood it but I suppose my family never went through what there's did so I can't speak on the topic.

Wrong. It’s white Americans trying to show that non whites are somehow not as American. There’s Asian American, African American but not European American. It’s another way of ‘othering’ no whites.

So the reason why they call us African Americans is cuz they want to say we are not full Americans even tho you never hear German Americans or any other countries. It just a way to make Black Americans less than them

Actually, it’s because Afro Americans were called negro and colored, among other names that were offensive. It also was used as a way to exclude them from being known as Americans. During the civil rights movement activists push for a more inclusive and less offensive term. “African” speaks on their heritage and “American” speaks on their identity as American born.

The ideal American is still a white man. I have the thickest southern accent you can imagine & it’s abundantly clear from the slang I use, the knowledge of the country, the history, geography, laws & customs that I grew up here & people STILL always ask me eventually “no , but where are you REALLY from”. I’m Mexican or Indian, Hawaiian, Filipino, Native American maybe (none of those are actually my ethnicity lol) but not just plain ol’ American.

The reason why most black people in America are called African-Americans is because their ancestors were shipped to America to be slaves to the White-Americans after they stoled the land for the natives. Latin-Americans, Asian-Americans...... If your family was born in a different country and you was born in America then you will be called (.......)-American. America is full of immigrants.
