The reason Bumi wasn't born with bending is because technically Katara does have non-bending genes (AKA Soka) as well that she can pass on to her kids and Bumi just kinda got unlucky, also so excited for you to start this season best one imo

Korra cant take away bending because thats a skill she got through her connection with Aang. She never really learned it, she just went avatar state and "aang" did the job. So when she lost connection to past avatars, she lost that ability
