In later episodes, you learn about the animals that taught the different bending types :) but yea the flying bison taught airbending.

Volcanos have lava, but you usually shouldn't be able to see it. Dormant volcanos usually look like a rocky field at the top, sometimes with grass or flowers growing.

I've always loved episodes like this, with seemingly random moments that actually tell you a lot, like how one twin was an earth bender and the other wasn't. It tells you that bending isn't determined just by your bloodline. It's always been pretty vague, and while there are some families known for producing benders, who you're related to or where you are born doesn't actually determine whether you will be a bender or not. Also ya, the OST is one of my favorites. This show is the reason I started writing music, and my favorite instrument is the one that caries the OST in this show, an ehru. It's like a long violin with only two strings. Sounds very emotional and somber.
