I get it's hard to understand Obito's motivation beyond Rin's death, but it's easier to think of it as the catalyst and not the cause. His world consisted of child soldiers, war, death, and the apparent loss of his life so it was pretty bleak. Rin's death was just the final straw basically.

Honestly Don think about crime and violence. If you don't live in a violent zone or country to you the world seems alright. Let's say then violence reaches someone you love. Wouldn't your outlook on life change? Now let's say you had a way to end all violence in the world and to get back the person whom you lost, wouldn't you consider it?
