Fun fact: Mothra can basically reincarnate with all the memories of the old one. It's movie mumbo jumbo so don't overthink it. Also I don't remember if it was confirmed but people are saying Shimo was the one that actually froze King Ghidorah

I'm assuming that Godzilla was not exactly briefed on Kong's allegiance, so it makes sense though that he would attack Kong, because for all he knows Kong is one of the enemy apes he fought long ago.
