[unpaid  post, no charge]

Hello everyone,

As my thanks for being generous patrons, and as I promised, I will be making frequent posts keeping you all updated on the specifics of what's going on with life-sim.

So, I took the plunge and am essentially recreating the game in a new twine file.  Why?  Well....  If you look at the attachment called "old twine web" you'll see  some, I repeat, some, of the current story web.  In fact, Twine is a rather ineffiecient program in itself, so webs that large literally lag when you scroll.  It's also terrifying to look at and deal with.  It used to actually cause me stress to be honest.

How did it get so big?  Well, I am literally learning basic programming as I go with this, and didn't consider the power of smartly using more if statements and variables.

Consider how I handled potions.  Check out the attached file "old".  Basically I was creating seperate passages for who should drink the potion, and then another for the outcome.

But now, check out that after!

And yes, I have tested it (gasp) and it works (double gasp).  What happens now is on the inventory screen you have a "Use potion on girlfriend" and "Use potion on yourself" links straight from there.  This also removes a click on your end!

So while I am confident that this is effectively neccesery for efficiency and mental health's sake, this is a pretty slow process.

There will be some cool new content in 4.0 (mostly some new descriptions since 20 is no longer "Strongest on Earth" - that's now 30 - along with new feats of strength), please don't be befuddled if the update seems smaller; there's a ton going on my end, and hopefully everything will be much smoother and more enjoyable on your end as well =)

More updates coming in the near future.  Thanks for your support and your continued patience!

The old twine is really scary. It's always amazing how the good use of the tools available can optimize some workflows :)

Well, I'd definitely be more willing to help debug it if it doesn't take minutes to scroll from one end to the other =P
