Thank you for reacting! Anissa is the first black lesbian superhero. This show is not apart of the Arrowverse. The actress who plays Anissa, Nafessa, made a joke at clexacon that she doesn’t think Supergirl would ever come to Freeland.

At this point, the showrunners said that it is unconnected to the Arrowverse. They didn't rule it out completely in the future, but at this time, they want to tell their own stories. I'm not sure they've decided which Earth it takes place on yet. For some reason, there's an idea that it takes place on either Supergirl's Earth or a separate Earth. I think it's because the character of Black Lightning first appeared in Superman's comics. He was, basically, the hero of Suicide Slums in Metropolis. On the show, it's a different town, Freeland. Right now though, the feel of this show doesn't really seem to mesh with the other CW shows, except maybe Arrow. I think there could be a story including Arrow and Black Lightning (and possibly Batwoman). It's darker (no pun intended) than the feel of the other shows.
