Sherlock is really good, it launched Cumberbatch's career... because he's so busy, they only come out with a few episodes every other year (they are also closer to movie length)... you could probably do all of the episodes pretty quick

There is a movie and show about Sherlock. The movies are with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law. The tv series is with Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. If you like Sherlock, you might like The Mentalist

To the best of my knowledge, this series from the BBC was the first to fully modernize the story of Sherlock Holmes.... shortly after Sherlock was a smash hit, the CBS show Elementary (the one you mentioned) kind of stole the idea... I like the BBC show much better, the longer shows and fewer episodes allow for very good writing and high production value

Yes they stole the idea but they did twist some things around. For example, the show Elementary they made Watson an woman and among other things that might be spoilers

I think the most accepted theory is that Sherlock is asexual, but my particluar opinion (talking more about the books) is that, Yes, there was something between Sherlock and John, but nothing was ever confirmed and maybe that's just my Johnlock heart talking hahahaha

Yes, I think people prone to shipping tend to ship John and Sherlock, but I completely see him more as asexual. Most people don't understand asexuals so they assume some sort of attraction to them and tend to mostly think they're gay, for some reason. Romantics. ;-)
