Sorry for writing so much...Juli I think you've already made your decision on Elena and whether you like her or not (not) but I need you to know that this is a new person adapting into a TOTALLY DIFFERENT life, like she doesn't understand this. Imagine having to live a life biting people to survive and not going over board or you'll kill them. When Stefan was the ripper all he did was kill (He then changed) and she doesn't want to do that, that's a scary life to live and even though the old good girl elena is gone she still has the kind, pure heart that she's always had and can't live with killing someone and Damon basically thrives off of that and when she says she doesn't want that you can't blame her.

completely agree with this. I feel like people judge elena before trying to step into her shoes. Like she's just trying to get through this transition with as little damage as possible. And it's even harder for her than most people bc all her friends expect her to stay the good girl next door and they hold her to a higher standard then anyone else, like bonnie was completely shaming her this episode, so its hard for elena to have a smooth transition when everyone is trying to tell her how to behave as a vampire. The reason she feels so comfortable with damon is bc he's the only one who won't judge her, his love is unconditional. And this makes elena feel guilty bc she should feel comfortable around Stefan who's her boyfriend, but she doesn't. That's why she lies to him at the end.

btw its great seeing another elena supporter, I feel like people judge elena so much bc they don't take the time to actually understand her character. But she's actually complex as hell, just not in the traditional way.

I'm so glad you agree because I felt like I was just rambling on and not making sense. Yes I love Elena and although she makes foolish decisions I just always remember where she is coming from with being a teen and losing almost everyone she loves it's hard to wrap your brain around all of this.

This is part of the reason I like The Originals more than The Vampire Diaries. The Vampire Diaries drags on this love triangle for 8 seasons and the show revolves around it. Elena is so annoying and unfair to Stefan and Damon. I wish that they would both decide their brother relationship was more important than a girl whose dragging them along. The Originals is about family and power. The Mikaelsons would always choose family over anyone.

Without spoiling anything, I just want to point out that the love triangle pretty much disappears halfway through Season 6. (I personally feel by the end of Season 5 the love triangle ends completely) but you could say by the middle of Season 6 it becomes clear which couples are together till the end of the series. So I wouldn't say it lasts the entire 8 Seasons. Also, Season 7 and 8 of the series focuses on the brother's relationship and not on the love triangle. (For some pretty obvious reasons but I won't spoil anything for Juli) The last episode of the series even highlights the brother's relationship. So I don't think it's fair to say that the entire series focuses on an "annoying" love triangle. And personally, I feel that The Vampire Diaries represents a lot more than just a love triangle. It focuses on relationships, yes, but also on the bond of friendship and family and transformation. It's one of the most compelling shows that has so much character development. You see every character go through a transformation and work through hardship, loss, grief, and come out even stronger in the end. The Originals is a fantastic series, yes. It's even one of my favorite shows of all time. And the show's main focus is the unbreakable bond of family, but I believe it is much more than that and so is The Vampire Diaries. To sum them up as one being about a love triangle and one being about family is simply inaccurate in my mind.

nah you definitely make sense, yeah elena makes some foolish decisions sometimes but for the majority of the show she is 17/18 years old and I remember making a hell of a lot more foolish decisions at that age. Elena's development as a character is her growth from a teenager into a woman, her views about love and life change and evolve and that's what makes her such an interesting character.

Elena was lying to herself, not Stefan. She doesn’t understand yet. She’s a new Vampire. And everyone is expecting her to be her normal old human self. She’s being shamed for what is now her nature. She was having fun. But, Bonnie got all judgemental and Elena felt ashamed.
