Warned AI is coming. Every opportunity can also be seen as a threat.

Now mainstream media is even covering it.

AI has emerged as a groundbreaking solution capable of automating numerous lucrative professions, including copywriting and writing tasks.

The impact of this advancement became evident when Olivia Lipkin, a 25-year-old copywriter, faced a job loss after her company adopted ChatGPT for their operations.

Similarly, Eric Fein, a freelance writer, experienced a substantial decline in his workload due to ChatGPT's proficiency. Consequently, he decided to pursue a career as a heating and air conditioning technician.

The proliferation of AI chatbots like ChatGPT poses a significant threat to high-paid jobs, necessitating the need for workers in these fields to undergo retraining or risk displacement due to automation. While the article acknowledges the potential benefits of AI chatbots, such as enhanced efficiency and productivity, it ultimately concludes that the risks associated with job displacement outweigh these advantages.

HOW TO PREPARE

To prepare for this transformative shift, there are several steps workers can take, including:

  • Upskilling and reskilling: Folks should invest in education and training to acquire the skills that will be in high demand in the future.
  • Networking: Building relationships within their industry enables workers to stay informed about the latest trends and seize potential opportunities.
  • Adaptability: Workers must be open to embracing new technologies and adaptable to changing work practices. The ascent of AI chatbots might be disruptive, but it also presents an opportunity for those who are willing to adapt and embrace change.

ChatGPT took their jobs. Now they walk dogs and fix air conditioners.

Comment Gift Article When ChatGPT came out last November, Olivia Lipkin, a 25-year-old copywriter in San Francisco, didn't think too much about it. Then, articles about how to use the chatbot on the job began appearing on internal Slack groups at the tech start-up where she worked as the company's only writer.

Likewise, young people starting out can return to the trades. I remember a mid-1990’s Wall Street Journal article that read, in 2025 Plumbers will be king. Also, starting salaries for junior officers in the US merchant marine are over $110,000 per year.

James, I enjoyed reading your article. I see this as a wake up call-services have been so over priced and companies will do what is necessary.

1. How can I better position myself. Yes, there are both downside and upside.

AI will be amazing when done right. We are incorporating AI into our online tutoring platform thdf serves over 100 countries. Some students can afford $30/hr, but millions simply cannot. Now those students can get help. We are also adding AI to assist the human tutors to better deliver there lessons. Unfortunately their will always be bad players in this world, and that is the big problem

I don't see AI as a threat, but as an opportunity to relieve us from mundane tasks and allow us to focus on solving better and more important problems.

There is an upside and a downside to everything. This is not new. Many have been warning about this coming for (literally) decades. Learn the tech. Leverage it.

Jobs aside, I do see recursive self-improvement as a problem/challenge. This has been discussed for many moons. There are papers galore. Pandora’s box has been opened, IMO.

but when 1 person w AI can do the job of 3 100K jobs... this will be a problem down the line.

Use AI to your advantage. Immerse yourself in it and learn how to use it to amplify your strengths.

My big for-profit healthcare Co.'s key objective is decreasing headcount. AI is already being deployed left and right to displace call center / low wage staff. Mid-levels will be next, preparing with self-reliance - or income streams that I control.

What about bit digital?

I won't be surprised if AMZN releases Health Insurance as an offering and just undercuts and disrupts the whole industry. With AWS and AI they could just destroy Blue Cross, Aetna etc, etc.
