This was a beautiful film that really captured the triumphant feeling of overcoming the odds.

This film came out in the wake of the "Oscars so white" controversy, and ended up helping to show that the industry still had a lot of work to do on racial issues however much of a triumphant true black story it told. Because the same year, a film adaptation of the August Wilson play Fences came out, and despite literally the only thing the films had in common being their focus on black characters, apparently that was plenty for them to get inextricably linked in multiple people's minds, resulting in two separate incidents at the Golden Globes where the movie was called "Hidden Fences." Especially disappointing was that one of them came from Michael Keaton, who can usually be counted on to be on the right side of this kind of thing, and he was clearly horribly embarrassed by it and couldn't apologize enough the next day.

The Right Stuff, Apollo 13, and Hidden Figures are a trilogy and nobody is going to charge my mind.

Your point about computers originally being people was exactly what I thought about on my first view.

Yes! I am almost embarrassed it took so long to realize the word had meaning before technology we now call computers.
