One big surprise in the year between seasons was how many people were expecting Starbuck to just be a Cylon. I never once seriously considered that, just because it was so much the obvious explanation for her return that what the hell would be the point of not just telling us as part of the cliffhanger ending? Imagine if a Doctor Who season ended with the Doctor in a clearly inescapable situation, building up how he’d get out for months, and then the next season starts with a new Doctor casually revealing he just regenerated after getting killed. So it was quite rewarding to see the characters first come up with the obvious answer before finding out it isn’t true. On the other side of the story, they were clearly very aware that they had a lot of work to do to sell Baltar’s redemption, and his being 100% willing to exchange his life for someone else very much does it despite his not having to go through with it. It’s the same trick that Legend of Korra pulled with Varrick, and it’s so effective when done believably that I’m surprised more writers don’t try it.

Oh I definitely was along with the speculation of Starbuck being a Cylon lol. I can't wait to see where they're trying to go with Gauis. His story has been one of the most intriguing parts of the whole show.

The *only* thing I'll grumble about is how perfectly these four would have worked if the actor who played Billy had stayed with the show. Tigh as Bill's right arm since the beginning and Billy as Laura's the same - and some other things I won't talk about now. But that's just a minor Doylean complaint when the Watsonian explanation works out just as well. As per usual, putting Katee and Mary in the same scene together proved nigh-impossible to shoot as they kept cracking up, even with no dialogue at all. (Maybe *especially* with no dialogue at all, since all they have here is Face Acting....) The battle sequence won the Emmy for Outstanding Special Visual Effects. Really all there is left to say at this point is - HERE WE GO!

This is a very well named episode that gives many underlying meanings into the interactions. It is of course Jesus' words "He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live." Starbuck's "resurrection," Gaius' life being given back to him, Derek's healing, are all kind of wrapped up in that statement. Life coming from death, and belief being the vehicle for that, are at the heart of it.
