Oh no. This movie resonated far too deeply. A fascinating and surreal look at what happens when you encounter something outside of your typical experience.

** When I went to record, Pleasantville was leading the poll. I thought I closed the poll. but check back later to see it was tied with kill bill. Next week you can expect Kill Bill, the following Kill Bill Vol 2 as well as the next poll :)

Like I said during the poll, I find this one much more "concept interesting" than getting much out of the movie itself. There's a ton of potential in this whole idea, especially when it switches gears to making the Pleasantville world more like the actual 1950s and all the bad stuff that implies. But unfortunately, it stays very surface level, with stuff like the "no coloreds" sign feeling like the movie is constantly poking you in the ribs and saying "Do you get it? DO YOU?" Luckily, you've already seen how much Gary Ross improved on being able to deliver a natural period setting just a few years later in Seabiscuit.

I just wanted to shout out actor JT Walsh, played the mayor Big Bob. He mostly *always* played the exact same character, but frick-a-doodle if he wasn't perfect at it! Needful Things and Sling Blade are my fav bits of him. (Doesn't spoil anything to know he's in those, without saying more that is.) Anyone else have a fav Walsh role?

He's incredible in Hoffa, playing a guy who was notoriously clumsy and inarticulate but still an effective union leader.

Oh yes, I realized after I finished recording that he did Seabiscuit and it made since! Loved that movie, definitely going to try to edit for YouTube before the end of the year. Maybe around the Holidays.
