The ultimate 80s fantasy adventure comedy romance? This is such a unique combination of elements and somehow it just works. The fantasy adventure elements work. The comedy elements work. The romance elements work. It is also definitively 80s, but I won't hold that against it ;)

I think this is my mom’s favorite film so thank you red dwarf for picking this one!

I have a soft spot for this soundtrack. I have a copy on vinyl. And no Chris, you were not supposed to cheer for the bell ringing LOL

Nice, nice nice. Thank you so much - a good quality reaction for this movie. Thank you. I guess there is a story about the music. I guess Richard Donner and Lauren Schuler were falling in love together as they were scouting locations for this movie, and while they were doing so, Richard was introduced to the Alan Parsons Project (who did the music for this). Alan Parsons was of course pretty well known in the 80s for this kind of music, and Richard liked it so much that they listened to it a lot, and in Richard's Head, the music kind of came to be synonymous with love, so he decided to use it in this movie, for better or for worse. Personally, for me, I saw this in theaters when it came out. I LOVED the music, not caring a jot if it matched with the setting of the movie or not. And, it was the 80's - we didn't nearly ask so much from our movies as we do now. I remember even owning the soundtrack on cassette, and listening to it on my Walkman. And really, it only kicks into full force during transition scenes or when nothing really is happening. I think the music just makes this thing timeless - we will never get another movie like this. And lets face it - the music may not fit, but it is really, REALLY fun. :) Others dont like Matthew Broderick in this - his 80's teenager vibe of smart alekness kind of turns people off. Again, 80s, and in that frame of reference, it really, really works. All of my children have watched it as well, and all of them love it and it is in our family repertoire of movies that we try to get others to watch. Great times.

Hey, So glad you enjoyed the reaction! Really appreciate all the background in on the music! That actually gives me a deeper appreciation for why this music may have been chosen. Really interesting. I'm sure if I'd seen it in the 80s I would have never thought twice about it lol. Thanks for stopping by Patreon to watch it.
