A beautifully constructed story full of heart, and mystery while addressing the question of science versus faith in an intriguing and thoughtful way! I'm annoyed I didn't watch this years ago, but happy to share the experience with you!

Sad that Carl Sagan never got to see this movie. He merged with the infinite before filming was completed.
I love John Hurt playing if-Jeff-Bezos-was-cool. Sagan certainly saw the future...except that he made it cool instead of what we currently have. Oh well. Keep the faith, y'all!

Everything I love about this film, you covered in your comments. A simply wonderful film. The only film of this genre I can think of that comes close to this in intelligence and heart is Arrival.

Sagan didn't like a New Hope because Chewy doesn't get a medal at the end; he was ahead of all the curves. The Tube has him on Johnny Carson in the 70's talking about it.
(Totally understand if you DON'T wanna look up Carl Sagan ragging on Star Wars, tho.)

Starman kinda...but it doesn't have any hard science to it, so kinda not.
Stargate!...well, no. No, I'm wrong about that.

Seems like there were other "Star" movies. Something about trekking off to war...with Mark Hamill...The Big Red One!

(i'll just let myself out...)
