This one got me 😭. It was truly a moving experience watching their relationship change over the years with themes of aging and prejudice woven throughout in an incredibly natural way.

I love this movie! I love that Miss Daisy felt the need to apologize for her wealth and deny the fact that she faced some of the same prejudices that Hoke did. She felt superior but didn’t want to show it. It’s a fascinating view into how people think about themselves and others. And the part where they show the empty house at the end brings me to tears every time. The last time I saw my grandmother in a nursing home, about a month before she died, I asked her about how hard her life had been. She lost her mother to the flu epidemic of 1919 when she was 2, her father died when she was 7, her grandfather died when she was in her teens, and she ended up living with her aunt. She said, “I been blessed. I’ve always had someone to care for me.”

Ok just wow. First off, I love the sentence about “how people think about themselves” because that is a really interesting part of the film and something really interesting to think about in general. The way I see myself is not always how others see me, sometimes they’re wrong, but sometimes they’re right. Really fascinates me. Secondly, thank you for sharing your grandmothers words. Really a powerful perspective.

I really enjoyed your reaction to this movie 😊. Like you said it is a slow build... but I think some how sweeter for it. I believe this is from a stage play, which accounts for how good the dialogue is. For as fun as fast paced action movies can be, there is just something so captivating about this simple story that feels genuine and real.
