I finally watched what many consider the best movie ever made! I don't know if I would go that far, but CERTAINLY ahead of its time with its structure, style and substance!

Do a brief reading of the history - Billy Hearst (whom Kane is a satirization of) tried to have Welles murdered and all copies destroyed. And legend has it "Rosebud" was Hearst's nickname for his mistress's...well...her lady...uh...his mistress in general I'll just say.

Yeah, the filmmaking is not, in my opinion, obviously ingenious on first watch. The first time watching Kane, I came away essentially just absorbing the basic plot, with some recognition of what Welles was trying to do visually. Watched again with a teacher pausing to explain certain techniques used throughout. That took FOREVER, but it was incredibly fascinating. I've informally "taught" the film to some friends and it's quite hard to grasp a lot of it without someone pointing out the specifics.
